O filme autobiográfico se passa no quarto de um aluno universitário africano na França que, impulsionado pela leitura de um livro sobre "a crise de consciência europeia" e seu desejo de escrever uma reflexão que correspondesse à situação africana, relembra rituais catárticos com música e dança de sua terra natal.
