Filmow alternative: is it still worth staying?
You opened Filmow to log a film and the doubt hit: is this still online? Before thinking about switching, the most honest answer is the date the page last opened. That date is right below.
By the Cinapp team · Updated on
Status on November 5, 2026
- Site online: on November 5, 2026, the Filmow home page loaded normally.
- No shutdown notice: the home page showed no notice of shutdown, price change or discontinued app.
This is a snapshot of one day. If you read this later, check the date and look at the site before deciding.
What Filmow offers
Going by what the site itself describes, Filmow brings together:
- Seen it and Want to see. You mark what you watched and keep what you want to watch.
- Ratings and comments. You can rate and comment on films and series.
- Lists. You create lists and can follow other people's lists.
- Friendships. Users can be friends on the site.
- Apps. There are apps for Android and iOS.
It also has a draw to pick a film, and private messages, according to the same page.
On price: the site presents itself as free, with ads, and offers a paid option to remove ads. I did not check the current price, so I don't quote a number here.
Where Filmow has the edge
- Films and series in one place. It has sections for series, seasons and episodes. Cinapp covers only films.
- Community. If you like talking with people who watch the same titles, that's what Filmow delivers.
If you use Filmow for series, for lists you already built, or for the friends you made there, there's no reason to leave just because someone wrote a text saying you should.
Where Cinapp is different
People looking for an alternative usually want something specific. These are the differences I would point out:
- Films only. Total focus. It's a product choice, not a limitation we hide.
- Calendar. You schedule films on a day, up to three per day.
- Points and ranking. Points come from scheduling, watching and keeping streaks. Ties in the ranking go to whoever watched more.
- 365 challenge. Its own page, with rules and themes, in 365 films challenge.
- Private lists. Your lists are not public.
- Free, with no paid plan.
- Diary by year, month and week. Your history is organized over time.
Cinapp does not import history from Filmow or other apps, and has no series.
How to move from Filmow
There is no import from Filmow to Cinapp. You log manually each film you want to keep, with the date you watched it.
My suggested order:
- Note the films you want to keep, in a spreadsheet or on paper.
- Create your Cinapp account.
- Log the most important films first. You don't need to bring everything.
- Keep both accounts for a while, until you feel comfortable.
If you've decided to leave
Leaving a network with years of history is a drag, and I get it. But the switch weighs less when you separate what is memory from what is showcase. Film history is memory: date, rating, what you felt. Friendships and public lists are showcase, and you can rebuild showcase.
So start with what really matters to you. Ten films that marked you are already worth the initial effort. You don't need to repeat all of Filmow on Cinapp. If the community was your reason for being there, Cinapp may not be the right switch, and that's fine to admit.
